Class Descriptions
At Studio J Performing Arts Center, we offer a wide range of dance and theatre classes for students of all ages and skill levels. From Ballet, Jazz, and Tap to Contemporary, Hip Hop, and Acro, our classes are designed to nurture creativity, build technique, and foster a love for the performing arts. Each class focuses on developing the unique strengths of every student in a Christ-centered environment. Whether your child is just beginning or looking to advance their skills, our experienced instructors provide personalized guidance to help them grow as dancers and individuals. 2 Year Old Classes
Our Twirling Twos pre-dance class, specially designed for 2-year-olds! Led by our highly experienced instructors, this class provides a nurturing environment where young dancers can explore movement and creativity. Our curriculum focuses on developing balance, coordination, and basic ballet skills while fostering self-esteem, confidence, and listening abilities. Twirling Twos offers a positive and supportive atmosphere that encourages students to learn and grow. THIS IS NOT A RECITAL CLASS.

3 Year Old Classes
Twinkle Toes is a 45-minute Ballet and Tap class for budding dancers aged 3! This creative movement class combines Ballet and Tap, offering a journey through dance. Dancers will explore basic dance skills in a fun and imaginative environment using imagery, locomotor movements, and rhythm patterns.
Acro students will engage in full-body movement to build strength, flexibility, balance, and body awareness, laying the foundation for learning acrobatic skills safely. From rolls to balances, we develop fundamental acro techniques while fostering confidence and coordination. Additionally, students are strongly encouraged to complement their acro training with ballet or jazz classes to enhance their overall dance experience.
4-5 Year Old Classes

Mini Ballet/Jazz/Tap is an hour-long session that introduces budding dancers to the fundamentals of Ballet, Jazz, and Tap, providing a structured yet joyful approach to early dance education.
Mini Tap & Ballet is a 45-minute session where young dancers delve into the basics of tap and ballet, laying the groundwork for their dance journey with professional instruction and creative exploration.
Mini Tap & Jazz is a 45-minute session in which young dancers explore the fundamentals of Tap and Jazz dance. This class focuses on basic techniques in both genres, allowing students to develop rhythm, coordination, and style in a supportive environment.
Mini Ballet & Jazz is a 45-minute class in which young dancers explore the fundamentals of Ballet and Jazz. With a focus on beginning classical ballet technique and basic jazz movements, students will embark on an exciting journey of discovering dance.
Mini Hip Hop is an energetic 30-minute class in which young dancers learn beginning hip hop moves. Get ready to groove and move in a fun and lively atmosphere!
Mini Pom is 30-minute Mini Pom class for ages 4-5 focuses on building basic technique, learning fun, energetic movements, and building performance confidence. Dancers will practice simple arm motions, beginner formations, and rhythm skills in an encouraging and age-appropriate environment.
Acro students will engage in full-body movement to build strength, flexibility, balance, and body awareness, laying the foundation for learning acrobatic skills safely. 1st and 2nd Graders

Elementary Ballet is a 45-minute beginning Ballet class; students will embark on their ballet journey with a focus on classical ballet technique. Through exploration and practice, students will learn correct body placement, steps, and terminology, laying the foundation for their ballet education.
Elementary Jazz/Tap is a 45-minute session in which young dancers explore the fundamentals of Jazz and Tap dance. Focusing on basic techniques for both genres, students will develop coordination, rhythm, and style in a fun and supportive environment.
Elementary Hip Hop is a 45-minute class where young dancers will explore the fundamentals of hip-hop with energetic moves and fun choreography.
Elementary Pom is a 45-minute class that focuses on building strong basic technique, learning fun and energetic movements, and growing performance confidence. Dancers will practice sharp arm motions, simple formations, and rhythm skills, all while having fun and working together as a team.
Acro is the fusion of the artistic motions of dance with the athleticism and skills of acrobatics. Acrobatics are a specialized art form that includes balance, flexibility, coordination, jumping, and tumbling. (Handstands, bridges, cartwheels, rolls, etc.)
3rd and 4th Graders

Junior Ballet is a 45-minute class in which students experience a beginning/intermediate level of Ballet instruction. With a focus on classical ballet technique, students will refine their skills in correct body placement, steps, and terminology, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation for this graceful art form.
Junior Jazz is a beginner/intermediate 45-minute Jazz Class where students explore basic Jazz movement and technique. Throughout the class, students focus on developing their skills in Jazz dance, including fundamental movements and techniques.
Junior Hip Hop is a 45-minute session in which young dancers explore different street dance styles, embracing the dynamic energy and rhythm of hip hop. In this exciting class, groove to the latest beats and express yourself through lively movements!
Junior Pom class will focus on building strong technique, learning dynamic movements, and enhancing performance confidence. Dancers will develop sharp arm motions, strong body control, and precision in movement, all essential elements of pom. The class will also emphasize synchronization, formations, and musicality to prepare dancers for performance opportunities and future team settings.
Tap classes focus on rhythm, timing, and precision. Dancers learn to use their feet as instruments, creating percussive sounds with every step. In these classes, students develop coordination, musicality, and technical skills while exploring various tap techniques and patterns. Whether beginners or more advanced dancers, each student will progress at their own pace, learning to create intricate rhythms and express themselves through movement and sound.

Intermediate Ballet is a 45-minute class that focuses on the classical ballet technique, refining body placement and steps. Join us as we delve deeper into ballet's graceful and disciplined art, building strength, poise, and precision!
Intermediate Jazz In this class, we'll focus on basic Jazz movement and technique, building a solid foundation for dancers in this dynamic style. Join us for 45 minutes as we explore rhythm, style, and expression in an engaging and supportive environment!
Intermediate/Teen Jazz Turns & Leaps 45-minute Advanced Jazz Technique Class! Designed for experienced dancers. Must be able to complete a single pirouette. This is a technique-only class. No Recital.
Intermediate Hip Hop is a 45-minute session where dancers will explore various street dance styles, immersing themselves in the dynamic rhythms and movements of hip hop. Join us as we groove to the latest beats and express ourselves through energetic choreography in this engaging class!

Teen !/!!/Advanced Ballet is an hour long class that focuses on the classical ballet technique, refining body placement and steps. Join us as we delve deeper into ballet's graceful and disciplined art, building strength, poise, and precision!
Teen I/II/Advanced Jazz is a 60-minute Jazz Class that focuses on jazz movement and technique. Students will refine their body placement, steps, and terminology skills, deepening their understanding of jazz dance.
Teen/Advanced Hip Hop is a 45-minute session where dancers will explore various street dance styles, immersing themselves in the dynamic rhythms and movements of hip hop. Join us as we groove to the latest beats and express ourselves through energetic choreography in this engaging class!
TeenAdvanced Contemporary Students must be enrolled in Ballet or Jazz to participate in this class. Contemporary dance emphasizes fluid movements that strive to connect the mind and body.

Students develop coordination, musicality, and technical skills in these classes while exploring various tap techniques and patterns. Advanced Ballet Technique is an advanced-level technique class for dancers interested in pointe work. Permission must be granted to attend. *Pre-pointe and pointe I students must be enrolled in Ballet Tech. for pointe and an additional ballet class.
Pre-pointe/Pointe I advanced-level technique class for dancers interested in pointe. Permission must be given to attend, and dancers must be enrolled in technique for pointe and another ballet class. Pre-pointe students must also be enrolled in Ballet Tech. for pointe and an additional ballet.
7th Grader +
Acro

LittleAcro is tailored for ages 3-4. In this energetic class, young students will engage in full-body movement to build strength, flexibility, balance, and body awareness, laying the foundation for learning acrobatic skills safely. From rolls to balances, we focus on developing fundamental acro techniques while fostering confidence and coordination. Additionally, students are strongly encouraged to complement their acro training with ballet or jazz classes to enhance their overall dance experience.
Acro Level 1 In this energetic class, students will embark on a journey to build strength, flexibility, balance, and body awareness essential for learning acrobatic skills safely. Our focus is on mastering foundational acro techniques while fostering confidence and creativity. Students are strongly encouraged to complement their acro training with ballet or jazz classes to enhance their overall dance experience.
Acro Level 2 is open to students aged 7 and above! In this class, students will further develop their acrobatic skills by building upon foundational techniques. To enroll in this level, students must demonstrate proficiency in pushing up to bridge, executing a forward roll, cartwheel (right or left), and performing a pre-handstand. Our focus is on refining these skills while introducing more advanced acrobatic elements. Additionally, students must be enrolled in a ballet or jazz class to complement their acro training and enhance their overall dance abilities.
Acro Level 3/4 is open to students ages 8+! In this class, students will begin to execute intermediate to advanced Acro skills while developing a balance of strength and flexibility. To enroll in this level, students must demonstrate proficiency in going down to a bridge from standing with correct alignment, executing a straddle roll, cartwheel (right and left), and performing a straight handstand. Additionally, students must be enrolled in a ballet or jazz class to complement their acro training and enhance their overall dance abilities.

Theatre
Take A Bow (Grades 1st-5th) This educational theater course is for students who are excited about singing, dancing, and acting! The application of theatre education, paired with musicianship and dance, will create confidence in students as they work toward the performance of a final production. This class will be taught by a certified music educator with extensive experience in musical theatre and performance training. Take A Bow will put on one production for the season.
Standing Ovation (6th-12th Grade) - This educational theater course is for students excited about singing, dancing, and acting! The application of theatre education, paired with musicianship and dance, will create confidence in students as they work toward the performance of a final production. This class will be taught by a certified music educator with extensive experience in musical theatre and performance training. Standing Ovation will put on a production each semester.
